Standing History collects and processes location data to provide core functionality:

Photos

When you choose to add photos to your discoveries:

  • Photo Library Access: We request permission to access your photo library only when you choose to attach photos

  • Storage: Photos are stored locally on your device and synced via iCloud (if enabled)

  • Compression: Photos are automatically compressed to optimize storage while maintaining quality

Device & Biometric Data

To secure your information:

  • Biometric Authentication: We use Face ID or Touch ID (if available and enabled) to protect access to your location history

  • Device Passcode: As a fallback, device passcode authentication may be used

  • Local Authentication: All biometric data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers

AI-Generated Content

Standing History uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 API to generate historical facts about locations:

  • Data Sent: Only geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to our secure proxy server

  • No Personal Data: We do not send any personally identifiable information with AI requests

  • Proxy Server: Requests are routed through our Vercel hosted proxy server for secure API communication

  • No Storage: We do not store AI-generated content on external servers

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud for our apps:

  • Cloud Storage: Your data (places, visits, photos) is stored in your private iCloud account

  • End-to-End Encryption: iCloud data is encrypted and only accessible from your devices

  • No Access: We cannot access your iCloud data

  • Optional: iCloud sync is optional and can be controlled through iOS Settings

Diagnostic & Usage Data

For debugging and improving app quality:

  • Debug Logs: Locally stored logs help diagnose issues (only accessible when you shake your device to open debug menu)

  • No Analytics: We do not collect analytics or usage statistics

  • No Tracking: We do not use third-party tracking or advertising services

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information solely to:

Access & Control

  • Photos: You can revoke photo library access in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos

Data Deletion

To completely delete all app data:

  1. Delete the app from your device

  2. Disable iCloud sync (if enabled)

OpenAI
